Safety & accessibility

Safety first, always – with accessibility built in

Adaptive diving must be safe diving. PASD follows industry standards, conservative limits and a “no pressure to perform” philosophy. If something doesn’t feel right, we stop, adjust and try again — or we don’t dive.

How we approach safety

  • Medical considerations and history discussed ahead of time.
  • Pre-dive briefing in clear, accessible language for the diver and support team.
  • Slow, step-by-step progression with the option to pause or stop at any point.
  • Conservative depth and time limits, tailored to individual needs.
  • Regular check-ins during each session to confirm comfort and readiness.

Some medical conditions require clearance from a diving doctor, particularly where breathing, heart health or certain medications are involved. We can explain what’s typically needed so you can speak with your health professionals.

Accessibility in practice

  • Flexible pacing — breaks, shorter sessions or multiple shorter visits if needed.
  • Help with gear donning/doffing, entries and exits where safe and appropriate.
  • Adapted teaching methods and visual aids for different learning styles.
  • Support person, family member or carer involvement encouraged.

Before each program we’ll agree on a simple accessibility plan so everyone knows what to expect: where support is most helpful, what to watch for and how to communicate if something changes. Our PADI Certified Adaptive Techniques Instructors build these considerations into every session.

If you or someone you support has specific concerns around safety, anxiety or accessibility, you’re welcome to outline them when you book a conversation. We’ll address them before anyone gets in the water.
